Coast Capital supports Take a Hike Foundation to empower vulnerable youth in BC with $75,000 grant

Take a Hike Foundation has received an impactful gift of $75,000 from Coast Capital. The contribution will support Take a Hike in empowering vulnerable youth across 15 programs in B.C., operating in the Interior, the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

Coast Capital has supported Take a Hike for over 15 years, with gifts totaling over $650,000. This meaningful partnership has positively affected youth across B.C., helping them to change the trajectory of their lives by building the skills and resilience needed to graduate high school and achieve success – however they define it.

Take a Hike empowers youth with a full-time mental health and emotional well-being program embedded in an alternate education classroom. Take a Hike’s program offers a powerful combination of high-quality education, intentional clinical counselling, community initiatives, and land-based learning.

While in the program:

  • 82% graduation rate achieved over the previous five school years (vs. 64% for similar vulnerable youth)
  • 85% of youth report significant mental health improvements
  • 90% of youth in Take a Hike plan to attend post-secondary education after graduating

Thanks to Coast Capital’s long-term backing, Take a Hike has helped youth across the province realize their potential, and prepare for a positive future. “We know that youth are more able, and more likely, to access and benefit from mental health supports when they are made available in their school setting. Generous and vital support from Coast Capital goes a long way towards helping us make this life-changing support available to as many youth in BC as possible” – Gordon Matchett, CEO at Take a Hike.
