A Hundred Hearts Who Care
It was one of those nights that reminded everyone why community matters.
A group of big-hearted locals known as 100+ Who Care Cowichan gathered for an evening of stories, connection, and generosity. This giving circle brings together community-minded individuals four times a year to make a collective impact. Each member contributes $100 per meeting, pooling their gifts to create one substantial donation for a local charity. At each gathering, three nominated organizations share their stories, members vote, and one recipient receives the combined gift, often more than $14,000 in a single night.
Launched in March 2025, 100+ Who Care Cowichan continues to grow, uniting locals who believe in the power of giving together.
Their goal is simple: lift up local causes and strengthen the community they call home. By pooling their donations, this caring group turns small acts of kindness into lasting impact for people right in Cowichan.
At their most recent event, three charities – including Take a Hike – were invited to share how they’re making a difference in their communities. When our team shared Rowan’s story, the room fell silent.
Rowan – a Vancouver Island youth who previously made it to school only seven times during one semester – found connection, belonging, and a love of learning through Take a Hike. Today, they’re preparing for college and planning a future where they can give back to others.
Rowan’s story didn’t just move the room, it sparked action. Inspired by Rowan’s journey, members of 100+ Who Care Cowichan voted to direct their collective gift of $15,000 to Take a Hike, helping more local youth like Rowan find stability, confidence, and purpose. The group’s generosity will help sustain key elements of Take a Hike’s Cowichan program, from mental health supports and personalized learning to meaningful land-based learning experiences.
